Pop Electronica?

I'm sure everyone reading this finds it annoying when people assume all electronic music is known as "techno." If you don't know what I'm talking about, well it annoys us. Electronic music isn't understood by the general media, but hey, it's good music. Most people seem to like it, as long as you don't play blistering speedbass to them.
This leads me to my blurb for the day. There are those who just deal with people calling it "techno," and there are those who sit there and educate people until they understand why it isn't techno. These are the electronic obscurists of the world.
What is pop? To me, pop is just musical that's well, popular. I don't see pop having any difference from other music, only that a lot of people listen to it because it's easily acceptable. These obscurists, however, hate pop, and think it's the music of the devil.
These obscurists are named for the type of music they listen to, obscure shit. Stuff you've never heard of before. To me, the music can even be terrible, but they like it because no one listens to it. So, when they hear some tracks on a Top 40 station, they assume it sucks, and they like to voice it.
When I hear electronic music on the radio, I honestly could care less who's listening to it. In fact, I think it's great that the masses get a chance to. Most people are also like this. What really ticks people off is the fact that "lemmings" go around singing the song because they heard it on the radio.
Now I don't mind this, but those obscurists seem to quite a bit. Basically, if I hear my Daft Punk on Z100, I'm still going to listen to them, regardless if people mindlessly do so as well.
So what do you guys think? Are you obscurists? Do lemmings bother you? Comment below, because it's now open to the public.
That is all,
Jordan

what if the other listeners refer to kanye west and have never heard of daft punk?

Not gonna lie, that does bother me just a little. But I think this is only because I hate Kanye West...and he stole their Interstella 5555 glasses.

I'm a bit of both sides, really. I don't really like the whole top 40 scene, but I have found songs there I like, and listen to. But the more obscure, the more fun it is, because "hey... I like a band that not every kid in America likes! I finally get to have an interest that's pretty much just me!"

I also have lot's of experience in the electronic=techno area... I am a mostly hardcore wannabe raver amongst a bunch of Broadway musical and death metal loving friends. I have now managed to get most of them to listen to some of the more mainstreamed electronic (i.e. Basshunter, Daft Punk, Justice, Tiesto, Cascada) and got them to understand the differences between trance, techno, drum and bass, house, and some of their subgenres.

In the end, I guess I'm middle of the road, because I think Stronger is awesome :P

i will have to admit, i do love stronger, but kanye doesn't give much credit to daft punk, even in the music video, they are there but im pretty sure most people are like "wow look at the robots with the cool helmets" lol

Thomas Bangalter's music for 'irreversible' is pretty up there for me (although the actual movie made by soul hurt for days).

That's weird, I never though of Bangalter as pop.

I have to see that movie now.

There is nothing wrong with being a lemming. I am quiet and don't care what happens to me. I am a perfect candidate to be a citizen of a totalitarian government.
Anyway, what is the difference between Rave, Trance, Techno... etc?
Is it the beat? The fact that drugs are more common at one than the other?
Do not take the time to say "OMG NOOBZORZ! LULZ..." because this question has already labeled me as one.
