Electro rap stuff

I know I'm meant to hate rap. And in most cases, I do. But this stuff is an exception. these guys are awesome.

First up, the UK's favourite lovable chavette and "midget" Lady Sovereign. When I look at Sov, everything about her tells me she should be crap at making music. But she's not. Even though she's a rapper, Sov's music has an almost punk ethic to it. Rather than just rapping about crime or the club like most in today's grime scene, she speaks her mind on a variety of subjects that, let's face it, need to be spoken of, but does so with a certain tongue-in-cheek humour over beats with hints of everything from 8-bit beeps on "Love Me Or Hate Me" to ska samples on "9 To 5". The message behind new single "So Human" deals the fact that even celebrities hav bad days sometimes, and does so over a cute, bleepy, Cure-sampling electropop beat. Make way for the S-O-V!

Next are Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. Consisting of producer Dan making some damn fine electro beats and rapper/poet Scroobius Pip (name taken from an Edward Lear poem) coming up with sometimes witty and sometimes just downright deep raps or spoken word poems for over the top. Now, I know what you're thinking. "Who's that third guy in the picture?". Well that would be Pos Plug Won from legendary hip-hop group De La Soul, who collaborated with Le Sac vs Pip on a remix of their big-fuck-you-to-everything-in-the-world track "Thou Shalt Always Kill". Best rap crossover ever? Quite possibly.

And finally, South African rap group, friends of Le Sac vs Pip and self-proclaimed "neolectro afrobotic ethnotechno mama's boys" Playdoe. Or at least one half of them. Similarly to Le Sac vs Pip, Playdoe consists of rapper Spoek Mathambo and producer Sibot (AKA DJ Fuck), the latter of which produced this awesome glitchfest of a remix for the De La version of Thou Shalt Always Kill. Enjoy :)
