Depeche Mode is back... again?

Depeche Mode started their commercial music careers in 1981 with Speak and Spell and have recently released Sounds Of The Universe, their 12th studio album. Things have changed a bit, though. Don't listen to Sounds expecting something like Some Great Reward (my favorite of their albums) or Violator. Don't expect anything to be the same, really. Upon listening to the first few tracks, I am reminded of Midnight Juggernauts or Ratatat with Depeche Mode vocals and production. It's slow, it's dark, it's pretty, and it's ambient, but People Are People this is not. This is proof that you can teach and old dog new tricks... even if it's just a new version of an old trick!

My recommended cuts would be Wrong, Fragile Tension, Peace, and Perfect.

Very few of the songs hit me the way People Are People does every time I hear it. It's good production, good songwriting, but it just doesn't quite hold up to past productions. I'm not saying it's not good though! If you want a good listening album, this is definitely the right direction to go... but as another album review I read said, "some might call them timeless; others will definitely dub them boring." Unless you already enjoy Depeche Mode, this album has a very strong possibility of disappointing.

Overall, I give it a big fat

Now here's some of the recommended cuts.

That might happen. I guess the singer is suffering heart problems which caused them to cancel their tour for the new album.

You must upload the remixes from the Wrong single. They sound brilliant from the previews I heard on iTunes. There's remixes from Thin White Duke, Magda, Trentemøller and D.I.M & Boys Noize.

Boys Noize? Wel well well... I'll have to get my hands on that one.
