Black Star

Gentlemen, meet the new face of pop.

Dan Black rose to fame last year with his track "HYPNTZ", a cover of Notorious B.I.G's "Hypnotize" with a drumbeat sampled from Rihanna's "Umbrella". Although it was never released on a label, this glorious mash took the hipsters by storm, and whether it was intended to or not, Dan sweetly crooning a gangster rap has a certain tongue-in-cheek air to it. But of course, once Dan came to release it as a single, problems arose. Biggie's estate denied Dan permission to release the cover, so the lyrics were rewritten and new single "Symphonies" was born.

Dan Black's debut album "Un" is out now on Polydor. I'll post a review soon, but for now, here's another single from the album.

I think you were too quick to write off speedbass.

On a more relevant note, I think Dan Black is the best pop star we've had for ages. And to think I had high hopes for Sam Sparro...

Loving the passion pit remix, bravo.

You got that right, Dan Black is the business. I prefer "Symphonies" over "HYPNTZ", the lyrics somehow flow better (and I never really liked Biggie).

Symphonies is way better anyway. Nice rework.
