Fake Blood - Fix Your Accent EP

Being a music whore, it doesn't take much to satisfy me. However, from time to time, I feel bored and in need of a new sound. 2009 wasn't so bad thanks to Axel Le Baron. He didn't necessarily create a "new sound," but instead modernized one I missed terribly. By May-ish, I felt unsatisfied. Thanks to Fake Blood, life is good once again.

Fix Your Accent as an album is simply incredible. It takes that funky house sound I missed oh so much. Of course talk has been going around on the forums of some fresh myspace artists, but to me, no one compares. On a side note, I'm probably going to bring back the ilictronix forums :)

Anywho, let's get down to business. I figure I'll review this EP, rather than just mindlessly giving you some free music (hopefully you guys read this shit, if you do...comment "I read this shit"). Since this album is generally new, I'm going to hold off on giving away this EP. Of course, you can always donate and put me in a good mood - and I'll gladly send them your way (via gift purchase) :)

Wow I managed to avoid "getting down to business" in yet another paragraph. REVIEW TIME.

Fix Your Accent - This is one of those songs that just has so much going on that it SHOULD BE MUDDY. But it isn't. Good god, Fake Blood. How do you do it? The samples are great, the songs stays fresh, and it has excellent replay value. 9.5/10 on this badboy.

Fake Blood - Fix Your Accent [buy the damn thing]

I Think I Like It - I'm going to be honest, this is probably the third best song of 2009 (after Music is the Danger and Primary School of course :D [don't flame me]). As I listen further, I bet it will sound even better. It's so catchy, the only downside is that it has some low points where I want more. But without these "ditches," I feel like I'd use up the song too much. So bravo, a 10/10.

Fake Blood - I Think I Like It [right click to be disappointed because I'm not giving you this song for free]

The Dozens - The intro to this track makes it so fantastic - it builds up and samples so many vocals I feel like I'm at an intervention. It has a gloomy feel, then takes up a simpler setup than the other two tracks. It's good, but not as fun and moving as the previous two. Still gets a nice 8/10.

Fake Blood - The Dozens [Donate and I'll think about it]

So Fake Blood, your new EP earns a thank-you-so-much-oh-god 9/10. It's funky, it's house, AND IT SOUNDS LIKE 2000-era FRENCH HOUSE SO YOU WIN MY HEART.

It may be a result of the hype and high expectations around this EP, but I'm not really impressed by this at all.

Likewise, I'm not getting any French house vibe from this whatsoever...

I did sort of enjoy "Fix Your Accent," and I would have kept it granted those samples didn't make my ears bleed.
