[???] What Do You Listen To When You're Sad?

Hey folks, Billy M-- Prez Jordan here - with a question. What kind of music do you listen to when you're feeling sad (or upset)?

I figured posing questions like these would really grab some viewer attention and maybe get some of you involved a little more. So please drop a comment in response to this.

As for me, nothing cheers me up like Third Eye Blind, but if we're talking electronic music - then I'm all about Royksopp and, strangely, Para One.

So what about you?
Prez

Daft Punk - Discovery.

That record always makes me happy.

when I'm really sad or angry, I listen to Radiohead. I feel like these guys know what I feel :)

When I feel sad and don't wanna feel happy atm: Radiohead, Death Cab For Cutie, Kent (Swedish band) and HIM.

When I feel sad and want to feel happy: Röyksopp, Daft Punk, In Flames etc. Much more electronic bands and artists.

speaking only in terms of electronic-oriented music, a few songs I really like for sad moments:

The Whip - Blackout (Shinichi Osawa Remix)
Annie - Heartbeat (Röyksopp's Mindre Tilgjengelige Remix)
Yasutaka Nakata - Dope Headz
Pet Shop Boys - West End Girls
Aqua - Good Morning Sunshine

depends on the situation, level of sadness, etc.

Really down/depressed : all of Selected Ambient Works Vol. II by Aphex Twin, specifically Cliffs, Rhubarb & Stone In Focus.
sometimes for just for chilling out, all Melody A.M by Röyksopp, or somethin like Sebastien Tellier - Roche & the kavinsky remix. And, strangley enough, Marine Mood & B4 Wuz Then by Felix Da Housecat. Can't beat a 'lil chicago house to chill! :P

Funny you should ask this now. A friend of mine committed suicide last Saturday. He was 31 years old and one of 3 or 4 local DJ's we have in town. We shared a love of electronic music, among other things. I also am a volunteer co-host of a radio show on our local NPR affiliate. My next show is Friday the 13th and I will come back and post my play list when I finalize it.

Jungle Brothers - Freakin' You (The Buffalo Bunch Remix)

Anyone has this in 320?

Telepopmusik - its calm ambient trance / soul music. You can't beat them when it comes to feeling better after a stressful day.

DPs Discovery sounds better for when you feel in love, personally.

yea untra i 100% agree with that

Salem's "Deepburn" is a good melancholy track. Junior Boys, Robert Palmer, maybe a little The Tear Garden, some Kate Bush, The Magnetic Fields and Sally Shapiro. Not necessarily in that order.

Honestly, when i'm feeling in the shitter, I throw down on some classic rock. Thin Lizzy, Tom Petty, Journey, etc. Something about a ripping guitar solo just pulls me out of the gutter.

If I'm feeling sad and want to stay that way, though, is usually some Smiths, Depeche Mode, shit in that vein.

I find that no matter what the situation of me feeling sad, there is a Death Cab for Cutie song that fits in perfectly. Keso, you're a legend for liking them.

And there's always a song on one of The O.C Soundtracks.. Ahh, the memories.

- Colour.

hello Prez

well, I'm not good at denying my feelings so I never put anything euphoric on, if I'm sad or upset. I basicly choose a couple of tracks appropiate for my situation. The 'In Rainbows' Radiohead album holds quite a few treasures in a melancholic sense. But one of my favorites atm is 'Love Is The End' by Keane or Nude (SayCet remix) by Radiohead (:

Deadmau5 - Strobe
