Let's take a trip to Perth, Australia and check out Pogo. [Last.fm]

What sets this guy apart from the rest is his incredible ability to micro-sample, a trick I simply do not have the patience to even attempt. This involves ripping sub-second samples and combining them to make beautiful music. The three tracks I am going to show you today show off his talent, and it's truly mind-blowing.
The first song, Alice, has been posted on this blog, but since the DAY OF RECKOINING - it has since been removed. It's by far his most famous work, and for good reason. Alice and Wonderland is cut up and played around with to become a trippy heart-warming ambient song to chill out to. It's good, I'll leave it at that.

The next, Lost, has more of a traditional song layout. The opening sounds like a potentially slamming hip hop beat, and the song develops with more drums and background lines to set itself apart in your iTunes library. Sadly, I cannot identify the original work these samples come from. If you know, please share. But first, take a listen, you won't regret it.

And lastly, Expialidocious, a title even I have trouble spelling. This happens to be my personal favorite, and shows off the most impressive sampling. Pogo makes incredible use of all resources from the original, Mary Poppins. Below, EvilStereo gives us an excellence layout of each of the samples.
Now for the music...

Enjoy, and disregard the quality, I've been trying :(

The late Xaphoon Jones, another amazing sampler, also uses that Expialidocious sample in Chiddy Bang - Never. I never knew where it was from till now!
Lost samples Alice In Wonderland.
Pogo's Lost + Expialidocious, made it on Weekend Music #2 playlist
(http://raulesparza.blogspot.com/2009/12/weekend-music-2.html)...other than that really great stuff by Pogo.

Been slowly ripping from HQ videos off youtube now for awhile to get his music to take on the go. Wonderful stuff!
pogo is so nasty, hope people realize how talented he is, the level of skill required to sample these clips and films is beyond what people are getting into today. youtube clips for the videos make them ever nastier too
This is great! I am an independent singer songwriter and I learn a lot from reading blogs like this - thanks so much for sharing.
Thanks for bring this to my attention, and thank you hype machine for brining this blog to my attention

Pogo is AMAAAAAAZING. How he has not been snatched up by a major ambient house label (do they exist?) is beyond me.
Everyone who likes this should probably check Akufen. One of the masters and pioneers of microsampling, up there with Todd Edwards in my opinion.
