This is a Test!

Ever since I started posting tracks back in August, I've stuck to the same flash player that you've all become familiar with. Well, the new wave of HTML5 websites has begun, and converting is looking like a better idea each day.

What does this mean? Starting soon, we might be using a simpler way to allow you guys to stream music, the audio tag. This will use less bandwidth, have more flexibility (such as a play count), volume control, and might even be faster! There's much testing to do. But for now, let's run a trial.

If you are unable to see the music player below, that means you are currently viewing this website in a web browser incompatible with HTML5.

Can you see the audio player? What do you think? Let us know in the comments section.

For those who can't, don't worry, you can listen to the track too.

See more from Pierce on MySpace.

Thanks for your time,
Prez

Hmm Deej FF 3.6 should definitely work.

If it doesn't, a warning message should display.

Might be the OS X 4.11 I'm on then. :| Can't upgrade due to finances and I'd need to get a whole new system too which I'd rather not deal with. Had to get this crummy mac back for college and it's done nothing but cause my wallet to weep ever since then.

…I just saw a brief flash of the player and then the X popped over it again. @#$%!

At least double clicking works to open the file and lemme listen to it. I'll figure this out. Prolly another bug that needs ironed out. n_n

:( Maybe it's too early to convert. We're reconstructing the site entirely, so ideas are just spewing our everywhere

safari on a mac... i can see the player. i can play the song. buuuuuuut i can't download.

i have a playlist of over 150 songs from you guys. if it stops here, i'll be quite upset.

Jordan S said...

Did you double click on the player's time? That should download the track.

Aria said...

yup. no response at all. not even a drop down menu to choose an option.

Jordan S said...

aria, try clicking the link above the normal flashplayer and see if that does anything. don't right click, just normal left click.

Jordan S said...

Oh, in Safari the music player is a bit different, that's why.

Thank you so much for using mp3's. I have a Chrome Extension I made that I use to listen to mp3's on sites. It uses HTML5 and works with this site too. Check it out if you're a chrome user: https://chrome.google.com/extensions/detail/ombidokijfcjafebincpedickobhmldb?hl=en-us

Using Chrome 5.0.x on Windows 7x64 works like a charm. Both the player and the click to download.
Just, I find the UI not that easy to use. Restart to play from the beginning is hard and changing the sound level is not easy. But for that I guess it's just the way my browser is doing...

One last thing. Neither of the two players, flash or html 5 do display in google reader...

I updated Firefox to 3.6 specifically so this would work... but it doesn't!

Seems to me like FF (only 3.5+) supports the HTML5 audio tag, but not with mp3s. Only with oggs.

I guess it's too early to convert.

Where did you find he Saint Pierce track? I remember the TPR remix was one of the first posts, and we had no idea where the original was!

Jordan S said...

TPR sent it to me :) i can't find ANY information or anything on the original artist though. it's a damn good track, too.

Works in Chrome (v4) for me, not in Firefox v3.5.7 though (just shows a big cross).
