A Question For You...

I've been doing this blogging thing for about a year and a half now, and it goes without saying that it was the best decision I've ever made. But, I haven't been on this Earth all that long (only 17 years), so I was much too young to witness some of the greatest artists that laid the foundation for artists that I know and love today.

So my question is... What artist/song/album made you think "Damn, electronic music owns!" ?

I loved Daft Punk as a kid, and Discovery was the first CD I ever truly fell in love with, so I've been a fan of dance music for a long time (for my age). But the first song that really made me think "Damn, this stuff is legit" was Justice's DVNO.

So what song inspired you to keep listening? Let me know in the comments section.

Looking forward to hearing your responses,
Prez

definitely "slam" and "blood sugar" by pendulum.

i know, i know, theyre pretty mainstream as far as DnB goes, but they were what really got me started with techno and house music.

For me, I was introduced to electronic music after watching the music video for LCD Soundsystems "Daft Punk is playing at my house". I discovered Daft Punk while searching for that music video again online.

But what really got me into house music permanently was "The weak become the heroes". One of the best testaments to house/dance music ever created.

I was just like that. Started out with Daft Punk then really liked DVNO. Now I am into Vitalic and Shadow Dancer.

For me, daft punk's discovery album is the first album i ever bought, i was like 11, but i didn't really understood it was electronic music or what, i just liked it.

I really discovered electronic music with Tacteel - Xmas in Padova, i found his myspace, 3 years ago now, by searching who the hell was that "Tacteel guy" with catchy voice in TTC - Travailler. And I think that i'm pretty glad i did that search even though i was kinda disapointed that he didn't sing :D

Oizo's #1 EP along with Stunt. It blew my mind. A different vein of electro indeed, but careful crafting. Such a unique genius. Opened up my mind to the entire world of the Electronica genre.

Haha Ferry Corsten was my first favorite EDM artist. The song Rock Your Body was in this movie It's All Gone Pete Tong. But over the year I fell in love with Electro music.

I'd have to say that "Around The World" by Daft Punk began my obsession with Electronic & House music, and look what that's achieved. Fabulous blog, in any case :D

Discovery was what got me into EDM, but all the old Roule and Cryda EPs were what got me into making it myself. It was all just so simple, but amazing.

i am bit older than you... however we still do have something in common about what made me into music, and specially electronic music: probably the CD I've most listened to, Daft Punk's Homework (sounding like the sample of the album here), which I bought in 1996.
I listened to it for years.
I recorded a tape only with the last track of the album Alive. And it got stuck on my car stereo... I was so glad. People asked me to change the music but I just couldn't.

When I first got into electronic music back in the 90s, for me it was Joey Beltram - Mentasm, Aphex Twin - Come To Daddy (Pappy Mix) and Altern 8 - Frequency

HipHouse, Daft Punk, and MTV's AMP are what got the beat going for me.

And thanks for maintaining such an outstanding blog. It is one of my favorites.

Believe it or not...
Kraftwerk's Autobahn at age 5. The idea of music WITHOUT instruments fascinated me, & of course, like all kids, I drifted from genre to genre before settling back into electronic stuff around age 10/11, starting again with Daft Punk, that I rememberd from 2001, moving on shortly to Felix Da Housecat & Electroclash.

most recently though, The Bloody Beetroots, Simian Mobile Disco, MSTRKRFT, Boards Of Canada & Aphex Twin

The album that made me look into electronic music was "Music for a jilted generation" from Prodigy back in 1996, no doubt, still remember those days.

When I was six years old, believe it or not in 1997 when Daft Punk released Homework. My father had bought the CD because he had always loved electronic music and was "branching out" as he explains it to me now when he bought the CD. So I have been in love with electro music since day one pretty much!

=D

Daft Punk's HBFS was what got me into EDM. Then i got their albums, then the Cryda dn Roule catalogs, and the rest is history.

Good call on Joey Beltram and Aphex Twin, they were early godfathers in the electronic genre. I'm also thinking Plastikman, Autechre and Nitzer Ebb around 1990. And Mr Oizo of course.

Daft Punk put me in the game with their amazing live performance. Breakbot and the whole Ed Banger crew are also f*cking great.

However my favourite electro song is EMERGE by Fischerspooner.
This is PURE MAGIC.

Special mention : Sebastien Tellier, another magician

Aphrohead's (aka Felix Da Housecat) LP "Thee Underground Made Me Do It" Just fantastic rollin' funky beats. In fact just take a look at Felix's other work as Rocketmann . He has always been around the electronic dance scene doin' somethin' different.

Les Rythmes Digitale's "Darkdancer" was out there in the clubs years before that Citroen Transformer advert. I remember the World DMC Team Champions played in Aberdeen (in 1999 or 2000 i think?)
They played out Propellerhead's On Her Majesty's Secret Service (there's a string laden Moonraker Soundtrack breakdown) and out came Stuart Price's "Hey you What's That Sound?" That had the hairs on the back of me neck up!

And off the chart, Nine Inch Nails first LP "Pretty Hate Machine" If you don't know it - try it. It's one of the most together pieces of electronic music ever.

Cheers ilictronix for keeping me bang up to date.

to Daft Punk's Homework. And now I listen to Etienne de Crecy. You really should do a post on Etienne, because he really is the Man!
