Ilictronix Podcast: Movin' House

"It's a non V-Day special with some house tracks that Claude and Adam both love."

This week's podcast is live! It's a decidedly different selection from me this week, much to Adam's surprise (and delight), I lean in real heavy on the house stuff. And not just the French stuff you've come to expect from us at the 'tronix. I kick things off with the absolutely sublime When I Fall In Love from A:xus vinyl crackle and all. I did almost swap it out for the Stryke's Blue Vocal Techsture" mix which truth be told is my favourite version of it. After that it's a whirlwind tour of similar territory, starting with out and out legends Frankie Knuckles and Mr. Fingers back to back, taking a bit of a left turn with an instrumental from Golden Boy (minus Miss Kittin) before bringing it back to home plate with a primo piece of electronic goodness from Galaxy 2 Galaxy, with their trademark Jazzy Techno sound.

Adam totally took a leaf out of my book for his choices this week, which I knew he would when he saw my selections. As such I must apologise for any excessive garage vibes that may occur. Joking aside, once again I appreciate Adam's contributions to the 'cast, because my selections pretty much used up my entire supply of that breed of house, (it's a genre that is woefully underrepresented in my collection for a variety of reasons) and Adam provides me with essentially of shopping list of artists and EPs to look at, pick up or otherwise add to my rotations. Full tracklist below as per usual!

Inde-pod-ance

You might've noticed I'd gone quiet again as of late, with reason this time though, as behind the scenes me and Adam have been refining the Podcast recording process. So to give it a test run, we recorded a very special independence day episode; with Adam managing to get it edited and put up on our mixcloud the same day(!). It's going up a day late here because I was out of town last night but that's no reason you can't enjoy our selections still. Tracklist after the player:

Opening:
When Johnny Comes Marching Home (Matzzz Remix)

Claude’s Selections
The Chemical Brothers - Star Guitar
Shinichi Osawa - Maximum Joy
DJ Mehdi - Tunisia Bambaataa

Adam’s picks:
Frankie Knuckles & Jamie Principle - Your Love
Adonis - No Way Back
Maurice - Get Into The Dance

Outro:
This random remix of Yankee Doodle Dandy we found

The Godfather of House (RIP)

Hey guys, Nite here. Once again, I had intended to write an album review, but alas, something more pressing came up. As many of you know, House music is becoming increasingly popular nowadays. That being said, such a thing could not have been possible without the talented and brilliant mind of one Frankie Knuckles.  Of course, most of us House lovers know this already, so what is the point that I'm trying to make then?

Frankie Knuckles, the Legendary Godfather of House Music, has passed away.

Death is obviously never a good thing, but to lose such an influential figure in the House scene is just mind-blowing. Knuckles helped provide a wonderful atmosphere for many people in Chicago, especially for those who were being oppressed and dejected for having AIDS or for being part of the LGBT community. Frankie took the concepts of love and harmony, found in disco and funk music, and used it as a framework for creating one of the most quintessential sub-genres for Dance music.

In honor of his tremendous achievements as a musician and a DJ, I dedicate this post to him and his work. Here are some of the best tracks and remixes he's made over the course of his 30+ years of producing and DJ'ing. Hopefully you'll find them as amazing as a I did and still do.

Last, but most certainly not least, comes from a group named Vintage Lounge Orchestra. The group recently just released a new EP titled 'Dreams', in which they remake a classic Fleetwood Mac track and turn the already amazing track into something just as awesome. Well, guess who took a part in remixing the remade track?  Yep you guessed it, the Godfather himself. Give it a listen, I promise you'll love it.

Here's to you Frankie. We'll always love you and your music, even if you're not with us.

Nite's Sizzlin' Summer Track Picks 11'

Hello guys and gals,It's been a while. A long time to be precise, and my have I been busy with getting accepted in college, finding and getting a job (Courtesy Clerk for Kroger FTW!), and graduating from High School, which felt really good to be honest. Well now I am back! For how long that is, I cannot say, but I shall post for as long as I can, even into college, when I have time. But let's get on with the tracks I have in store for you :)

First up is a new and sexy track from a good friend of mine, Evil Stereo (I'm sure you remember him from Power Glove Records. If not, look him up). Going under the alias, Silver Age Scientist (for just this once, I believe) he cooks up a high-velocity electro track with kickin drums, major synth leads, and some samples you may or may not recognize (*cough* zelda *cough*). I found this insanely fun and would be a powerful track to play in DJ set's. Definitely a must-listen for summer tunes.

Next up is a track from Sandy Rivera (AKA Kings of Tomorrow) and Yasmeen. The track, aptly named Love, gives off a nice electronic vibe with sexy vocals and a piano playing in the background, making it even more grandiose. This track will make you believe in love.

Next up is a rather interesting track from Todd Terry. Dubbed I am your DJ, it gives off a unique electro-house feel with sensual vocals and vibes. It truly just shows the versatility that one of the founding house artists can bring to the table.

And speaking of founding fathers of house...

And now,a Nuyorican Soul mix of Afro Celt Sound System: A group who blends West African vibes with Celtic music and Electronica. With the Nuyorican Soul mix, it brings out more power into it, giving it a tribal-esque feel to it. You shall love it.

And because I'm done with government enforced school...here's a wonderful mix of Alice Cooper's School's Out by TEAM BANZAI.

And finally, a soulful house track from Osunlade
