C-C-C-Combo Breaker

Claude has had the luxury of crafting the last 7 posts. I haven't posted in a while.
This is destiny. This is music. This is poorly written.

Firstly, some fresh Glitch Mob. Love Death Immortality was a strange album. While I enjoyed hearing the crystalline production shine through, the overall tempo of the album was a huge put-off. Many of the songs sounded too similar and repetitious in their synth lines. It sounds as if they'd found a golden song goose, and they'd abused it. The whole album is a bit of a silver egg for me. It doesn't sound as though they were willing to try anything new than to add 30 bpm onto their old formula. But hey, that's just my opinion, you guys should probably formulate your own. Here's my least disliked track from the album, Becoming Harmonious.
Those dreamy vocals are almost over-run with triangular eargasms. There's a hint of actual glitching within the drum track. The subtle bass within the song. The tempo is at a reasonable pace. The dedication to production within Glitch Mob work shines. Enough bad sentence structure. Song.



Now to some of my more likeable selections.

Another of my favourite Daft Punk tunes. The best part is the stirring of the strings. Add a march tempo to it, and you basically feel as though Jason Voorhees is walking towards you while you're paralysed. Spooky, I know.


I don't normally enjoy dance or trance type tunes, but this song is just so perfect, so I suppose the title is rather fitting in that respect. This is barely just a song, it feels more like a composition.

If you know understand the Stephen Falken reference, you know this track perfectly fits into that scene. Contains that clear Futurecop! psuedo-80's sound, but also has that direct link to the past that just cannot be explained.



Aesop Rock has some amazing work. I've had this playing all week, and I notice new things every time I listen to it. The first listening, that strangely high bass line catches the ear. Then that kick comes in, realising the low end missing from the bass line. There are so many things going on, but it all works so well. The utilisation of multi-tracking vocals is one of Aesop Rocks signature techniques, it's hard to think how he'd be doing that live, or if he even can. Great writing, great sampling, great production and a quite good execution.

The song is called Can't Kill Us and gives me high hopes for their new album, it still has that great Glitch Mob sound, distorted synths and bass plus their signature drums, love it.

Get Excited

I'm quite excited. The Glitch Mob recently announced the completion of their new album, titled Love Death Immortality, set to drop in early February. Tycho also announced his new album, Awake, the other day. He also released the title track.

I got the opportunity to see Tycho live last year, and was also lucky enough to wait around for the live trio to come back on stage after a 3 minute encore chant. They played an unreleased track, without any visual accompaniment, something the entire live show uses. Since I heard them play it last year, I've been eagerly waiting for the new album. The title track from Awake really grabbed me at first, mainly because of the emphasis on the guitar, and away from those sweet synth lines. However, the synths quickly make a return, and so does the iconic Tycho sound. It doesn't sound particularly new or different, but I still quite like it. It retains that strange energetic serenity.




With my pre-order, The Glitch Mob were kind enough to offer up one track, Can't Kill Us.The whole track just throws energy at your ears, like an audio interpretation of dedication and adrenaline. These guys are really quite dedicated too. I've been following original member of The Glitch Mob, edIT, since I first heard his solo album from 2004. Among the extreme amounts of fan teasing these guys have put out the last month or so, edIT recently showed us just how dedicated these guys are.

"Man....... I have been staring at my computer screen for the past three years (every day) cranking on this Glitch Mob record. And as I sit here cranking on our live show it is such a surreal feeling to see a small slice of this album get wings and take off into the internet. Three years seems like a lifetime at this day in age to release an album..... And it is. But you guys deserve the absolutebest that we're capable of, and there were so many moments on this journey where I knew we could do better. I dropped everything and went all in for three years to work on this project, so thank you all for being so patient. We did this for you. I hope it was worth the wait. Can't wait to be on the ride with you all next year. Much love.

It really was worth the wait.

While on the topic of edIT's solo work, here's a taste from his 2004 release Crying Over Pros For No Reason. I'm quite sure edIT is now the pro. When I first heard this guys work, I was just inspired and amazed. I found this track absolutely amazing when I first heard it, and I'm still amazed whenever I hear it. Soothing guitar, silky vocal bends, clicks and claps, and a beat that never gives up the tempo no matter how crushed.



2014 is set to be an exciting year.

Brodinski likes to slow things down

So, Brodinski has been "screwing" things these days and it's pretty cool actually ! [Update: these tracks are pretty much nowhere to be streamed on the 'net and are no longer on Brodinski's soundcloud, you can find them for download if you go looking but I won't be linking them here.]

This track is a recurrent joke with a friend so it kinda got my attention instantly, and it sounds realy good slowed down.

The Glitch Mob @ Le Nouveau Casino

Hey there.

Last night I had the chance to watch The Glitch Mob perform live at Le Nouveau Casino. One of the best gig I intended so far.



The night beginned with Electrik Blast a french duo that would make anybody's head bang in half a minute, their mix was thrilling, way better than a lot of "party starters" I've seen that would simply throw tracks and that's it.

The set was a patchwork of great taste music, between hip hop, dubstep and jungle, adding a lot of beats to it, kind of like C2C. They included 3 new Rustie tracks that made everyone go crazy, no wonders why.

Next band was MC2, a glitch hop duet from the south of France.



I was not that convinced at first, then one of the two guys started climbing on the table, playing with a PC joystick and a PS2 controler, at this point most of the crowd went apeshit, me and my friends had to fight for 20 mins to get a decent spot to enjoy the Glitch Mob.





Then, those three cool guys came on stage, no big deal.



The live was simply amazing, one of thing that will hit right right away is how much fun they are having, ediT was smiling during the whole performance, playing with the crowd, who (unlike every crowd sadly) really know the songs, instantly started clapping during Make The World Stop and 7th Nation Army remix without any of the guys on stage having to ask for it.





I was really excited about The Glitch Mob live after seeing a few videos on youtube, the three of them would start grabbing drumsticks and add live drums to the music at some points, it gives a real energy to the tracks. Another addition they make during live is the vocal part, they add a lot of lyrics on some songs, probably samples but from songs I don't know so I can't tell if they were collab or simple samples, except at one point when they throwed Harder Better Faster Stronger's vocals.



Oh and one more thing... They gave us a little bonus, a brand new track they never played to anyone before, so here is a vid I took with my phone, the quality is obviously not great but you can still listen to it I think.



During the crowd shot Dj Missil came on stage and she started her set, we went back to the bar in the club to meet some people and listened to Electrik Blast were DJing.

After a 5am Nutella Crêpe, one hour of slow mo walk in the streets of Paris and two hours of train, here I am, still amazed by that night.

My opinion on The Glitch Mob live ? Powerful, entertaining and a lot of fun if the crowd is really into it.

Hi there, back from my vacation and I have a little something in my backpack for you guys !

First, 3 songs released by Alecks Awklr to make us wait as he's working on another LP ! Alecks is keeping his nice sound, very calm downtempo, so refreshing these days.



These two other releases are not really new, but still.

The Glitch Mob throwed a three songs long EP, and I simply can't decide which ones to post because they all are impressivly good. If you enjoyed their LP :Drink The Sea, you will definitely love these.

Our long time readers might remember SBTRKT (pronounced subtract), we talked a bit about him back in the beginning of 2010. He released his album this year, and it's been praised everywhere, for obvious reasons, as it is simply amazing.

So who is SKTRKT except a guy with a tribal mask ? If you ask me is an Ambient/Jungle/Dubstep prodigy with a bit of Hudson Mohawke on the side, as you'll hear in his track Ready Set Loop. His style is hard to explain but easy to recognize, isn't that what's best ?

I obviously won't post the whole LP, but here are my favorite tracks and the music video for Wildfire.

I finally managed to listen to Tron Legacy R3C0NF1GUR3D, I'm not gonna lie, I was disapointed by the remixers list.

The whole album is not bad, but there is too much average tracks. Nothing really creative, people sticked to their style.
