The Project Has Landed

So, after around a year plus of teasing, the mystery can finally be dropped. Here's the oh-so-secret project me and Adam were working on, the ilictronix podcast has landed! Join me and Adam as we talk about some tunes, the many confusing instances of Ghost In The Shell, and Björk.

Doesn't look like the tracklist is live on mixcloud yet, but I kept it on file so I might as well post it here too. Stay tuned for more, it took a while for us to get it done but I really like the format and I think we could do a lot with it. But for now I'll jet and just leave you with the tunes!

Philestine – Genius In A Bottle (Mix 3)
Cornelius – Deep Breathing
Games - Take Me To The Top (From the Heaven Can Wait, Vol. 2 mixtape)

TV Sounds

Florin Ciulache - Facility Line (2003)

For the first time in a while we have a pot tied together with a theme! As the title and art would suggest this time its all about tunes on the tele which gives me a bit of room to natter about them. Starting with Cornelius and the opening theme to Ghost In The Shell Arise, which is on the whole a lot more electronic than previous GITS soundtracks. It wouldn't sound amiss on some Beats or Future Garage compilation or something like that, it's a gorgeous listen and I am in love with the sounds on offer every single time it comes up.

I've overlooked the soundtrack parts of FlyLo's Ideas... .RAR until now. The Lotus has always had close ties with Adult Swim and two tunes included on Ideas ae the opening and closing themes for an entire season of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. The opening track is deliciously smooth and features both the show's cast and FlyLo himself on the vocal front.

The closer on the other hand is an entirely different beast. Featuring that rough round the edges feel that's at least partially inspired by Mr. Oizo, Chasing Apples does an excellent job of displaying FlyLo's versatility if nothing else. I only wish it were mastered a bit quieter because it makes me jump every time.

A Lil' Behind

Fell back a little bit but I done had a busy weekend so I think I can let myself off this time. And I had something lined up to post too, remember when I covered Blog buddy Joe's label with the then-current Choco Love? well there's been a tasty batch of remixes just come off the line, and hopefully they'll be enough to keep you satisfied until I can dedicate some time to a proper long form post.

Let's Go Swimmin'

Remember how like two posts ago I was saying that I love the vibe that Celadon and the company he keeps put out? Well they musta been listening because his collective project/netlabel Galaxy Swim Team just dropped another compilation dealio that is filling my super cute audio needs for today. It's also accompanied by a lovely message:
This album is dedicated to all of our family and friends who have supported Galaxy Swim Team thus far. We could not be more thrilled to finally be putting out this comp! Galaxy Swim Team at its core, is just a bunch of friends creating together. We all feel extremely lucky that from beginning to end, that's all this project ever was. Friends creating together.

So from the bottom of our hearts,
We hope you enjoy. <3

It doesn't mess around, from the get go you're immersed in that Glass Swords-esque sound that I indulge in every now and then. I will not be short of people to look up for future soundcloud roundups for a while to boot. Check it out, and find more from the Swim Team at Soundcloud, Twitter, Facebook and buy their releases on Bandcamp

HexLove

Remember a few days ago when I mentioned that flylo mix keeping me sweet until the next Rustie release? Well thanks to old friend of the blog Cloudfill and his label I may have even more ammo to see me through. The latest release of theirs is by far and away the most suiting of the 'sugary sweet' label I like to throw around tracks like these. The watercolour-y cover is lovely to see too, among a sea of often all too generic cover designs it certainly stands out.

Be sure to give 'Fill some love, check Hexmania on Soundcloud for more, and if you're feeling the releases on offer you can cruise on over to The Bandcamp and scoop them for a moderate fee of your choosing. -Claude Van Foxbat

While I was out.....

Oh hey, it's good to be back! Finals are done, I'm all caught up with my listening list and down to clown. Wow the ending to this year has been absolutely stacked with great releases and our end of the year lists are gong to be so hard to make. Until then, here are some of my favorite tracks I've been listening to.

With the re-release of GTA V its been fun to go back and listen to Flying Lotus station FLYLOFM and the remastered version has some new unreleased tracks. One of my favorites from this mix was an exclusive from Clams Casino - Crystals. This is one of the busiest bangers I've come across especially from someone like Clams.

I am really hit and miss on Acid but this newest release from Daniel Avery's titled Drone Logic was really close in changing my mind. One of the best and danceable cuts form this album was All I Need, I love the juxtaposition of the kick drum and the synth thats just slathered in reverb. The vocals are deliciously sexy especially mid track when a voice demands that you "taste it"

Jon Hopkins absolutely blew me away with his album Immunity so I'm thrilled that he is in Japan recording a new album. In the mean time he dropped a stellar essential mix along with this small EP that feature "Asleep Version" remixes on some of immunities best tracks. The standout is Form By Firelight and it features vocals from Raphaelle Standell.

This next one was tough, I want to hate Ariel Pink and write him off as blog fodder but ill be dammed his newest album Pom Pom had some pretty interesting ideas that kept me coming back.

Worlds Fair is a rap collective from Brooklyn and their work so far has been pretty solid and sounds almost like something the Pro-Era crew would put out if they weren't stuck up their on asses. Anyways this is from their mixtape B.o.t.p.

I'm sure you all have seen a decent amount of hype for Andy Stott's new album faith in strangers and honestly its all true. I actually first heard of Andy fairly recently on Matthew Prain's mix he did a couple of months ago. I was absolutely lost in this album and after I heard this track I was instantly hooked. There is a lot to love with this one, the brooding baseline and a post apocalyptic synth line and those eerie vocals make this one of the best of the year.

Revisiting an old friend: Sepalcure

Fate is a bizarre phenomenon. You have those albums where your lukewarm when you first heard them and then overtime life happens and you rediscover and fall in love with the record. This just happened to me with Sepalcure's self titled album. Sepalcure is a super group consisting of Praveen Sharma and Machinedrum and this release is better than anything Machinedrum has put out. (#SHOTSFIRED)

I was never super hot on all the post dub-step especially around 2011. But after spending a lot of time with Jamie XX, James Blake and Mount Kimbie I think I "got it" and was finally ready. Yes this album came out in '11 but its literally the only I can listen to right now, and that's saying something because Death Grips just dropped a surprise album with Bjork.
Lets go through some of my favorite cuts off the album and revisit this monster of an album.

This one starts off pretty average, but then around the 2:30 mark that beautiful synth rolls in and just whisks you away.

A pretty stellar Reggae vibe on this one. The manipulated vocal sample just swirls around with that echo'ed piano, its dizzying but in the best way possible.

The real meat of the album, one of my favorite beats of all time. Its dark, busy and the production keeps all the intricate layers of track in place so nothing sounds blown out. Once that bottom end comes in, you know this is a special track. The urgency of the beat is what makes it whet my whistle.
